FP2020 Progresses and Challenges

Family Planning 2020 (FP2020) is a global partnership that supports the rights of women and girls to decide—freely and for themselves—whether, when and how many children they want to have. FP2020 works with governments, civil society, multilateral organizations, donors, the private sector and the research and development community to enable 120 million more women and girls to use contraceptives by 2020.

An outcome of the 2012 London Summit on Family Planning, FP2020 is based on the principle that all women, no matter where they live, should have access to lifesaving contraceptives. Achieving the FP2020 goal is a critical milestone to ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health care services by 2030, as laid out in Sustainable Development Goal 3. FP2020 is in support of the UN Secretary-General’s Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ health.

Our shared goal is ambitious, and FP2020 has made significant progress. An unprecedented number of women and girls are using modern methods of contraception: 290.6 million in the world’s poorest countries. But while we have made great strides, the latest data show FP2020 and its partners must work together to accelerate progress if we are to deliver on our promise to millions of women and girls. We must reexamine our commitments to ensure we’re doing all we can, and reinvigorate our efforts wherever necessary.

Family Planning Voices – #FPVoices

If you follow Humans of New York, you understand the power of a simple image and a few words. Data are essential for successful programming, but stories compel people to take action.

That’s why K4Health and FP2020 created Family Planning Voices (FP Voices), a photo blog to document and share family planning stories from around the world.

Meet the real people behind the family planning movement and add your voice!
The FP Voices Tumblr is now live. During the conference, the FP Voices storytelling booth, sponsored by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, will be in the Jimbaran Lobby on the ground floor of BNDCC 1.
